Changing a PetSafe cap

  1. Before you begin, remove the collar from the pet.
  2. Turn the old battery counterclockwise to the Unlock symbol, with PetSafe’s Test Light Tool or a coin.
  3. With it out, hold the collar’s power button for 10 seconds, or until the lights and beeps stop, to clear the battery memory.
  4. Look inside the collar for corrosion before the new cap goes in. If there is any, PetSafe says to contact its Customer Care.

The PetSafe battery and its cap come out as one piece: a coin in the slot turns it counterclockwise to the Unlock mark.

Sealed collars

SportDOG’s support article on changing a collar battery says to take out both screws on the back with a 3/32 hex key, fit the new gasket from the kit so the collar stays waterproof, then pair the remote and collar again.

E-Collar Technologies’ ET-300 manual gives steps for replacing the battery, but its safety section says only qualified service personnel should replace it, with the correct battery.

Batteries that only one maker sells

Invisible Fence Brand says its Power Cap is the only battery authorized for its Computer Collar while under warranty. Most of these packs carry the maker’s own part number, so search by that number.
