Type the code printed on a coin, button or household battery to see the cell it names: its size, chemistry and volts, and each maker’s codes for it.
Printed on the flat side of a coin or button cell, or on the label of a larger battery.
What that code is
Type the code printed on the battery, such as CR2032, LR44, 357.
Coin cells
Lithium coin cells start with CR and are 3 V. In every coin cell on our coin battery size chart, the first two digits are about the diameter in millimeters and the last two the thickness in tenths: a CR2025 is 20 mm across and 2.5 mm thick. A bare 2032 is on GP’s list for its CR2032.
Button and watch cells
Silver oxide watch cells go by a three-digit number (377, 357, 371) and by SR codes, and are 1.55 V. Alkaline button cells go by LR codes and are 1.5 V. The same size can come in both: the alkaline LR44 and the silver oxide 357 are both 11.6 x 5.4 mm. LR44 battery equivalent explains that pair, and the button battery size chart lists the rest.
AG codes and makers’ cross references
None of the Energizer, Renata, GP or Duracell sheets we read names a cell by an AG code. AG codes turn up in other makers’ lists: AG13 on Energizer’s and GP’s A76 lists, and AG3, AG10 and AG13 in the names of Ansmann’s LR41, LR54 and LR44. Those lists name codes, not chemistries, and they differ from maker to maker. No battery maker’s page we read ties AG4, L1154 or 8LR932 to a cell; for those, look for an LR, SR or CR code on the pack or in your device’s manual.
If a battery is swallowed
If anyone may have swallowed a coin or button battery, don’t delay: call the 24-hour National Battery Ingestion Hotline at 1-800-498-8666 or your poison center at 1-800-222-1222. Keep spare and used cells where children can’t reach them.
Common questions
Is AG13 the same as LR44?
Same size, by Energizer's and GP's lists: both put AG13 among the codes their LR44 (A76) replaces, and Ansmann sells its alkaline LR44 as LR44 / LR1154 / AG13. Energizer's and GP's lists don't say whether an AG13 is alkaline or silver oxide, so check the pack.
What is a BR2032?
Renata's cross reference lists BR2032 beside its CR2032 for Maxell, Panasonic, Murata, Toshiba and Energizer, so it's the same 20 x 3.2 mm size. The finder gives the CR2032's figures. Panasonic rates its BR2032 at 200 mAh and -40 to 85 C, and its CR2032 at 225 mAh and -30 to 85 C.
Is 76A the same as LR44?
Yes, by Duracell's datasheet, which names its cell 76A / LR44: an alkaline cell at 1.5 V. Energizer sells the same LR44 as its A76.
Codes, sizes and volts come from Energizer’s datasheets and product pages, Renata’s product pages, GP Batteries’ product pages and Duracell’s datasheets, with Ansmann’s product sheets for codes only; the swallowing line from the National Capital Poison Center. Checked against published data from Energizer, Renata, Duracell, GP Batteries and Ansmann (plus 2 more).
