Batteries labeled long lasting
Browning says batteries sold as Long Lasting can cause diminished performance, because their power is restricted over a longer time. Moultrie also says not to use off-brand batteries or ones labeled “long-lasting” in its cameras.
Changing the batteries
Put in a full set of new batteries at once. Bushnell’s manual says never to mix old and new batteries or different brands, and Moultrie says not to mix alkaline, lithium and rechargeable.
Browning adds that you should take the batteries out when the camera isn’t in use.

Can I use rechargeable AA batteries in a trail camera?
Browning and Moultrie advise against rechargeable AAs. Browning says they have less capacity and lower voltage, and Moultrie says not to use them.
Are lithium AA batteries better for a trail camera in the cold?
Yes, Browning and Moultrie both say lithium AAs hold up better in cold weather than alkaline ones.
