How to change it, in Kia’s steps
- If your key has a mechanical key, take it out first, as the 2021 Sorento, 2022 K5 and 2025 Sportage manuals say.
- Put a slim tool into the slot and gently pry the cover open.
- On a folding key, as in the 2024 Seltos, loosen the battery cover’s retaining screw and lift the cover off.
- Fit the new battery with its poles lined up correctly. Kia’s 2026 Carnival manual says a battery put in the wrong way round will discharge and leave the key unusable.
If the smart key battery is weak
Kia’s 2026 Carnival manual says you can still start the engine by pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button with the smart key itself, touching the button at a right angle.
