What Battery For

What size power station for a fridge?

Multiply the kWh a year on the fridge’s yellow EnergyGuide label by 1,000 and divide by 365 for the watt-hours it uses in a day, then divide by 0.85 for the station. The station also has to start the compressor.

From the EnergyGuide label

The FTC describes the EnergyGuide label as the yellow tag on most home appliances. If you can’t see one, the FTC says to look inside the appliance, or on the seller’s or maker’s website.

A day’s use of four ENERGY STAR fridges, and the station for 24 hours

The station column is the Wh a day divided by 0.85. The average watts spread the year’s use over its 8,760 hours; type yours and the hours into the power station size calculator for another fridge or a longer outage.

Starting the compressor

A fridge doesn’t draw its average all the time. Anker SOLIX says cycling appliances like fridges switch on and off, so their average over several hours may be well below their peak draw, and it lists fridges among the loads that surge at startup.

Take the starting watts from your fridge’s maker, in its manual or by asking. Bluetti says its AC180 runtime formula isn’t suitable for compressor loads such as fridges.

Common questions

How long will a 1,000 Wh power station run a fridge?

By Jackery's formula, about 20 hours for a fridge that uses 366 kWh a year: 1,000 × 0.85 ÷ 41.8 W, its average draw.

Why does the EnergyGuide label give kWh a year?

The FTC's rules ask for it: 16 CFR 305.14 says a fridge's label must show the model's estimated annual energy consumption.

Where we get our information from

Yearly use comes from ENERGY STAR’s list of certified fridges and the label rules from the FTC; the 0.85 factor and the notes on compressors from Jackery, Anker SOLIX and Bluetti, all read on October 25, 2026. Checked against published data from Federal Trade Commission, Jackery, Anker SOLIX, BLUETTI and ENERGY STAR (EPA).
